Musical Month: Ungettable

My newer favourite in the Musical Month challenge (see more about the challenge in the previous post) is, ironically, an old song from the Finnish Band Naryan. Or well, not an old old, but from their album published in 2013. Maybe I'm so old already, that two years ago is practically 'now' for me.. :D

The song is called 'Ungettable' and I simply love the atmosphere, rolling guitars and beautiful violins in the song – and the band's way of visualising their art.

It might be deep, it might be dark – but somehow it's still hopeful and purging!

The base in most of the nails is OPI Skull & Glossbones, and on the ring finger GAP Starry Night. I have to say I was a bit disappointed on the Starry Night: it took four coats to be passably opaque, and still I felt the glitters got a bit buried in the base..

The stamping is from BP-L015 With Essence Dark grey Stampy polish. Thumb and pinky got some simple marbling with saran wrap – and the pinky a tribute to the band logo with striping tape.

The other girls have been listening to these same songs, and striving to find inspiration in them. I think the results are really pretty! See Janina's awesome work in her blog 'Never grow up'!!

Circus Water Marble - Nail of The Day!!

Here's something you haven't seen for a while: a nail-of-the-day post :) I am actually wearing this mani right now! Woot!

I decided to call this the Circus: there's some candy floss, some magic dust, some clash and some drama...

The polishes I used were:
OPI Mod About You, Life Gave Me Lemons and The Power of Pink.
The purple is Catrice Pink Punk - which is a bit funny as it's the not-pink polish in this lot.

Alongside the water marble there are nails with Mod About You as the base, topped off with the Power of Pink glitters (they are both fom the breast cancer awareness set OPI released last year), and with some dots of the Life Gave me Lemons.

The hugest thank you to you, my dear reader, for being there and reading this!!! You are awesome!  There have been some hectic times in my life - but I am a lucky girl to be able to come back to you and the world of nails. There is so much joy to be found in this little hobby of ours – let's go and find it together!!!!

GOT Polish: As Orange as it Gets

This weeks Golden Oldies challenge was orange - and this manicure is about as orange as a manicure can get..

 This mani started with two coats of OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear and stamping with Konad white and BM308.

I then proceeded to do my first stamping sandwich by adding:
some more Y'all
some more stamping
a final coat of Y'all
... and a coat of Seche Vite.

I love how squishy it looks! I would like to drink anything that tastes like this looks!

TPC: Spun Sugar and Dots

Here comes -at last- the Tri polish Tuesday manicure from last week. This has been a crazy week!

The base here is Barielle Make it a Latte – the only clearly brown polish I've got with me.

First I added some spun sugar with Barielle The Pink of Fashion. The polish worked extremely well for this technique - and it's a pink - so a total winner for spun sugar!

I also did a couple spins with OPI Skull and Glossbones - and used the two polishes for double dots. All the pics are without top coat - although I did add some later on for wearability..

TPC: Corral de Campanas

My last Tri Polish challenge manicure in January  is actually the first I made. Oh technology, how easy you make it to deceive others...

We celebrated the New Year -and the beginning of the no booze January- with an extra special wine, Corral de Campanas by Quinta de la Quietud. The hubby suggested I paint my nails in the style of the label – what a great idea!!

Base here is Nails White, two coats. On it I painted random dabs with OPI From a to Z-urich, Essence Colour&go Wake up! and OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear.

Lastly (but not leastly haha) I added the lines with a fine nail art brush and Mavala black.

Although I messed up a few points, I was quite happy how the mani looked compared to the original. I'm looking forward to February and more wine labels to get inspired by!!

GOT Polish: Blue Pirouette

The blue themed post in the GOT polish challenge is dedicated to a non-blue polish – one of the prettiest glitter toppers ever: OPI Pirouette My Whistle. If you own it, this is the kind of manicure you're going to do, sooner or later. And, believe me, it pays off...

 I paired it first with a blue jelly polish.

I proceeded like this:
a coat of Essence Cool and the Gang
a coat of OPI Pirouette my Whistle
a coat of CatG
dabbings of PMW
a coat of Seche Vite

Just admire the depth!! Such blue! Very jelly! Wow!

I couldn't stop myself here - although I maybe should have. I added an accent finger with iridescent glequins in the left hand, and China Glaze Snow Globe in the right.

I'm useless in glitter placement, sorry! I need some more excercise...

Finally, I aimed for some kind of a seabed effect with the stamping. The pattern is from the DRK-A plate, stamped twice: first with Essie Fair Game, and then with Orly It's Up to Blue.

Some more Seche Vite, and I was ready (to regret I didn't stop earlier..)

TPC: Squishy Water Marble

The third Tri Polish Challenge post still features the only yellow polish in my travel stash: Rimmel Lemon Drop. Try to bear with me!

 It's been a long time since I did a water marble. The main reason, I think, is that the water where I lived simply wouldn't cooperate. Now that I'm back in Spain, I simply had to try one.

For this marble I used OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear and the ubiquitous Rimmel fruities Lemon Drop. I painted the base with Lemon drop, but it turned out so streaky even after three coats, that I came to think of a marble. And I'm glad I did!

 The marble is far from perfect, but I like how squishy the mani looks. Like fruit candy! Omnomnom...

Orange in a Sandwich

One of the projects I've got for the new year is to catch up again with the Tri polish Tuesdays run by the Crumpet. And here is my first manicure in January colours: red, orange and yellow.

I started out with two coats of IsaDora peel off base coat. Then I painted on two coats of OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear and sponged on with a moist sponge some Revlon's Revlon Red. This phase looked delicious!

 Then I added a coat of a yellow glitter topper: Formula X for Sephora Mind Blowing.

Lastly I sandwiched the glitter between coats of Y'all Come Back etc. And added two coats of Seche Vite. So altogether there was 10 coats of polish on my nails! Wow! No wonder they felt a bit thick...

 This was fun, I posted it in time, and I am happy. I've deserved some Lindor while I look what the others have done this Tuesday :)

Z – Zoya Ziv

To end the year of polishing and the ABC challenge, I've got the most beautiful golden polish for you: Zoya Ziv.

This manicure also sports OPI Red Shatter. I was soooo over and done with crackles, until I tried out this one (my first OPI shatter). Now I'm in love again! It looks so fab over white on my swatchsicles, too! I want to try it on every colour. How about a bright blue next?

On the thumb and the ring finger I sponged Lacquistry Devil's Dandruff, some red glitter from Essence Applause Applause (from the Circus Circus collection) and some Wet'n'Wild Fergie collection No Place Like Home. I also added a tear shaped rhinestone (probably from eBay).

The manicure turned out quite Christmass-y - appropriate for the season, although a bit late :)

This is it, then, my dearest readers! The ABC challenge finally over, I've got new awesome nail challenges and projects in store for the next year. Happy New Year to all of You!!

Merry Christmas Manicure

This purple and blue manicure was supposed to be only a dress rehearsal, but it turned to my official Christmas manicure. The time I could have decorated my nails I spent decorating cookies. Well, it was fun and a bit artsy anyways - just the things I love in my nail hobby.

 The base colours here are OPI Into the Night and Revlon Parfumerie wild violets.
I have to say I was disappointed with the OPI opacity - it needed four coats. I loved the result, though, and it didn't stain.

I used Mavala white and Nicole by OPI Celebration in Red for the candy cane accent nail.
The inspiration for the mistletoe nail came from the awesome Canadian Nail Fanatic – one of the first blogs I started to follow and which I'll never let go. I used Pueen 15 image plate and Konad stamping polish in white, and then added tiny dots with CiR.

 This manicure is also the first one for a project I decided to start from the beginning of 2014. Want to hear more? Stay tuned!

Gutter Snow

The first layer of snow this winter has landed! Somehow it's horrible and marvellous at the same time... I don't know what made me want to to celebrate it - with a manicure, of course.

I've had this polish waiting for quite a long time. Mainly because it's clearly a layering polish, but I couldn't decide which colour and tone I should layer it on. It could look fab over darker colours (the iridescent glitter!!), but then the black glitter wouldn't show. And if i choose something in between, what colour should it be...?  Does this ever happen to you? I really wish I had a personal manicure design assistant at home...

 Then it struck me! I'll layer it over an ombre!!

As the base I made an ombre from grey to black. The polishes used were (from pinky to thumb)
OPI I Vant to be A-lone Star
Essence Twins Romeo
A England Dorian Gray
Essence 50's girls You're a Heartbreaker
Essence Circus Circus My Sparkling Acrobat black creme

Each nail then got a warm winter coat of Lacquistry Gutter Snow. And what a beauty it is!! Just look at the iridescent tiny glitter over any of these base colours! Jenna, the creator of this and other fab Lacquistry polishes can really be proud of herself!

The black hexes took some fishing, but otherwise the application was a breeze. And all it took to even out was a single coat of Sehe Vite.
